Utah’s nonfarm payroll employment for November 2015 grew by an estimated 3.6 percent, adding 48,400 jobs to the economy as compared to November 2014. Utah’s current employment level registers 1,404,800.
November’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped one tenth of a percentage point from last month to 3.5 percent. Approximately 51,500 Utahns were unemployed in the month and actively seeking work. The national unemployment rate showed no change from October, coming in at 5.0 percent.
“Utah continues to enjoy favorable labor market conditions,” reported Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services. “Expansion across the majority of industries means opportunities abound for Utah’s job seekers.”
Eight of the ten private sector industry groups measured in the establishment survey posted net job increases in November as compared to last year, while the Natural Resources and Mining industry shed 1,100 positions and Other Services shed 1,400 positions. The largest private sector employment increases were in Education and Health Services (9,100 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (7,900 jobs); and Professional and Business Services (7,900 jobs). The fastest employment growth occurred in Information (7.6 percent); Construction (7.3 percent); and Leisure and Hospitality (6.2 percent).
