The first blast of winter weather slowed traffic to a crawl on SR-6 in Price Canyon Tuesday afternoon. There was at least one rollover accident due to the hazardous conditions, and several tractor-trailer rigs slid off the highway or were not able to pull the icy grade and stalled in place, blocking traffic.
Utah Department of Public Safety issued an advisory that chains were required for big rigs to travel over the summit and there was a line at Martin where drivers stopped to chain up.
The Port of Entry was overwhelmed as eastbound traffic that had been backed up because of a rollover accident near the junction of SR-6 and SR-96 arrived in bunches.
UDOT snowplow crews, Utah Highway Patrol Troopers, and Helper emergency personnel all had a busy afternoon responding to accidents and controlling traffic.
