Success came in the third game of the season for the fledgling Price American Legion team. They traveled to the Uintah Basin for three games and came away with a win and a pair of losses. Roosevelt was the victim of the Price team losing 16-5. Vernal, who had already beaten the team twice took two more with a 7-3 and a 13-3 win.
Neto Pacheco took the mound for Price and went two innings with three strike outs against Roosevelt. Levi Graff came in and finished up with seven strike outs.
“Levi pitched a great game and we hit really well in that game,” noted Coach Willie Ellington. “Our kids were excited, it showed in how hard they played.”
But it was the bats that really did the talking in this game. Tyson Dameron, Matthew Pacheco and Carl Wilson each had a pair of hits and an RBI. Travis Failor had a pair of hits and three RBI’s and Dorian Scoville and Max Misner added a pair of hits and a pair of RBI’s themselves.
The team then headed to Vernal to play a doubleheader.
Neto Pacheco took the mound and went three innings. Travis Failor came in and closed.
The game stayed close for three innings and then a couple of throwing errors let Vernal send some runners home. Price worked hard to stay in it, but could not get the hits when they needed them.
“We just left too many runners on base,” commented Ellington. “If we could have gotten the key hits I felt like the score would have been 14-13 with us winning.”
TJ Cartwright had three hits and Jonathan Garcia had a pair in the losing cause.
In the night cap of the doubleheaded, it was much of the same for the Price offense. Runners left stranded kept the team from putting much up on the scoreboard. Failor had the best night with two hits and an RBI. Misner doubled for the only extra base hit from the Price squad.
“I feel that we are still in the learning process and as the season goes along this team is really going to show what they can do,” stated Ellington.
Price heads south this week for a pair of games in Cedar City.
