According to a local press release, West United is made up of soccer players age 16 and 17 who play under the Utah Youth Soccer Association during the fall. At the summer games Olmos, was coached by Mark Moreno and assistant coach Kurt Henriod. The team played squads made up of 17 and 18 year-olds from Roy, St. George, Riverton, Weber and Salt Lake.
Olmos helped the team take the bronze medal in their division and she had one of six goals and two assists throughout the tournament. She plays forward and midfield and was invited to play in this competition because of her advanced skill level and speed on the field, according to the release.
Because of her stellar play, Olmos has been invited back to play with the squad during their regular season and in additional tournaments.
“The qualities that Olmos excels with are her speed and ability to stick with the ball and not back down,” said coach Moreno. “The rougher the other team plays the rougher Olmos gets.”
