Helper American Legion digs in, outlast Murray for big win

By Sun Advocate

On Monday night the Helper American Legion team played Murray at home. In one of the closer games all season for the squad, Helper beat Murray by a final score of 4-2. The win puts Helper at 2-0 in league play and 7-1 overall for the season.
“We were very tired last night from a long stretch of games last week. I think the seven games last week finally caught up to us last night. We left a lot of runners on base and did not hit the ball as well as we have been. With that said our pitching was great and our defense was solid enough for the win,” stated Coach Cisneros after the game.
Derick Anderson pitched five solid innings allowing only three hits and one run. Josh Dennison came on in relief and pitched the final two innings. He gave up only one hit and a run.
Ron Herrera blasted his fifth homerun of the season, hitting the first pitch he saw over the left field wall. Marcus Zaccaria and Colby Snow each had a double. And the team as a whole rallied even though it was obvious they were running low on fuel.
Helper travels to Taylorsville on Wednesday and then are back home Friday to face a combined Murray and Olympus team called the Spartans at 7:00 pm.
