Kyla Namanny boxes out Delta player as she fights for the ball. Delta was the latest to go down during the Dino’s non stop attack on region eight. |
The North Sanpete Hawks raucous crowd and hometown advantage did not keep the Lady Dinos from taking them down in another run away victory as they climbed to 2-0 in region play.
The Dinos easily beat the Hawks 46-22 on Thursday night.
Carbon set the tone early on with good defense and solid offense to go up 14-3 in the first quarter of play.
They kept the momentum going with a 15-3 second quarter. Heading into the locker room they had a 23 point lead.
“I was amazed at how hard we came out to play.” Coach Carlson stated. “We haven’t done that yet this season, but they came out with a whatever it takes attitude and never let off. It was go go go!”
Adding to the lead in the third, the Dinos kept the pressure up to post a score of 39-9 with one quarter to go.
After that it was smooth sailing to finish off the Hawks and keep their region winning record intact. Carlson took the press off and emptied her bench to again give all the girls some court time.
Even though it wasn’t the highest scoring quarter in the game, even the bench showed solid play.
Julia Potts |
Megan Garvin hit a pair of threes on her way to 14 points on the night. Erika Potts contributed 14 and Julia Potts added six o cap off the scoring leaders.
Defensively Carbon shut down North Sanpete’s offensive rebounding which is where their strength lies.
The Dino coaching staff drilled the need for the team to box out the Hawks and they did with a vengeance. Unable to get second and third chances, the Hawks scoring was non-existent.
Emery comes into town Tuesday night for their shot at Carbon.
Last year Emery dominated the Dinos with their full court press, but this year the Dinos think they are ready for whatever the Spartans throw at them.
Carlson knows the biggest handicap her team may have is their own mental attitudes toward their Emery foes. If they cannot let the past psych themselves out, they can put the Spartans away.
Game time is at 7 p.m. in the Dino gym.
Carbon will also take on Morgan this Friday night at 7 p.m. at home.
This is the contest that was previously canceled due to weather earlier in the girls season.
