On Jan. 3, Carbon High’s diving team competed at South Summit High School.
The coaches did not expect to compete very well after the long Christmas break but the team surprised them and did very well. Everyone scored very high marks.
Travis Hobbs placed first and broke the 400 point barrier by scoring 407 points, which broke the school record. No boy from Carbon has broken the 400 point mark before.
Brett Wells placed second with a personal best of 379 points.
Nick Torres placed 4th with a personal best of 320 points.
Kent Olsen had some good dives and some not so good ones but managed fifth place with 289 points. Nathan Hepworth placed sixth with a personal best of 269 points. Nathan used the board well to get his height and entered the water in good form.
Kaleb Kulow had a good day placing 7th with 232 points. Dwight Denny placed 8th and Kenny Hobbs placed 9th. This was Kenny’s first 11 dive meet. He did very well until his last dive, and then failed on it.
The next meet for the team is on Jan. 12 at Bear River High School.
