Julia Potts sinks a sweet shot for a pair in the game against Delta. The Lady Dinos won the game making them 1-0 in Region 8 play.

Using the well worn clich that you can’t win them all until you win the first one, the Lady Dinos took that first step in their goal to go undefeated in region play by downing the Delta Rabbits 49-28, Tuesday night. They had come off a blowout win over Layton Christian Academy on Friday as a warm-up to region action.
“Not much to say about a game like that,” was all Coach Cami Carlson could manage about the lopsided 72-20 victory Carbon had over Layton Christian last Friday night.
“We did everything we could to keep it from getting out of hand. We took the press off early and played everyone, but it was just like they didn’t want to guard us at all.”
Carbon knew the direction of the game early. Before they could even blink they were up 22-4 and the first quarter was over. It didn’t improve for LCA in the second and they headed to the locker room down 30-8.
The carnage continued for Layton as the Dinos couldn’t miss.
In the end the much quicker and experienced Dinos were just too much for LCA to have any kind of chance and the game ended with the final score of 72-20.
Megan Garvin had another stellar night. She tied her three point shooting high with six. Garvin ended up with 18 points and seven rebounds. Julia Potts also had a solid performance with 12 points, six rebounds and six steals. Patricia Smith had seven steals and seven points. Felicia Olmos also shot two treys in the game.
Tuesday the Rabbits came ready to play.
Defense ruled in the first quarter as each team struggled to get a shot off. Delta drew first blood quickly, but then could not find the net after that.
The Dinos managed to get things rolling, but had to earn their scores.
They didn’t build up a big lead, but kept edging up the margin slowly and surely, gaining confidence as they went. The first quarter lead of 9-4 grew to 18-8 at the half.
The scoring intensity picked up in the third for both teams, but the Dinos continued to be the better team and they had a comfortable lead of 38-21 by the end of the third.
In the fourth with the outcome decided, everybody got some playing time again.
Outside shooter, Megan Garvin sent another four three pointers through the hoop for her 12 points.
Patricia Smith racked up 11 and had five steals. Julia Potts had seven rebounds and eight points with a pair of long balls herself.
Carbon will travel to take on North Sanpete on Thursday night and that game is expected to be a tough one. North Sanpete match-ups have taken on some true intensity in recent seasons and the Dinos expect no less this time around.
The rescheduled game against Morgan that was to take place this Saturday, Jan. 12; will not take place at this time. It is now set for Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Carbon High gym.
