Letter to the editor: Homeland security starts at home

During the recent power outage of Aug. 5 in Price I was surprised to see total confusion when the stoplight on Carbon Avenue and Main Street didn’t work. Why was nobody directing traffic?
As I finally navigated my way through the confusion I noticed a Carbon County Sheriff’s vehicle approaching the same mess. I also passed an East Carbon police vehicle within a few blocks. I thought how they both could have helped direct the traffic but that it probably wasn’t their jurisdiction and should be the responsibility of the Price Police Department.
I remember a few years ago a young mother was killed in an accident because the stop light between Albertson’s and Market Express went out in a power outage.
With all our homeland security and emergency planning I have to wonder: Is this the best we can do?
