Super fans, Paul and Charlene Dupin take a minute to pose for a photo during the Carbon Emery game.

At some home games cheering fans are sometimes hard to find. Late in the season many come to jump on the bandwagon of a successful Carbon team or cheer against Emery. But no matter what; early season, play-off games, football, basketball. volleyball or baseball; you will find Charlene and Paul Dupin cheering on the players.
The two have been fixtures in the Carbon County area for what may seem like forever. They both taught and coached in the Carbon School District. Retired now, but not forgotten, they attend as many high school and CEU games as they can fit into their busy schedule. It seems like something is amiss when they have a rare break in attendance.
At the recent Carbon Emery basketball game, they were sitting in their usual spot, Charlene on a folding chair, Paul on his cushion on the floor. Everyone who passed by stopped to chat. They held court with anyone wanting to visit. Former students showed off babies and older kids. Booster club supporters and players parents talked about present and past players. All the while they both had one eye on the game, ready to cheer every triumph that happened on the court.
The Dupins were nominated as one of only five nominations accepted by the Utah High School Activities Association each year. The Super Fan Award was started 11 years ago to honor outstanding contributors to Utah high school activities.
Besides attending many Carbon and Emery and CEU games, they are often ask for advice from parents, players and coaches. They have been mentors to many coaches throughout the state.
In addition, each year they award scholarships to at least four athletes at Carbon High. They are on the CEU Alumni Board. Participation on the board enables them to raise money for Carbon, Emery and Green River scholarships.
The Dupins will be honored at the state boy’s basketball tournament at half time during the championship game . This game will tip off at 7:30 on January 20th at the E-Center in West Valley.
