The Carbon boys qualified for the state tournament at region eight championships in Delta last week.
“Our kids came in planning to take fourth or fifth,” said Coach Stew Foster. “But they really pushed themselves and were able to come in third. Actually they were very close to Emery for the second place position.”
According to Foster, both Kent Olson and Jared Richens placed in the top 10 and received medals. Olson placed sixth and Richens took 10th on the grueling Delta course.
The other boys qualifying for state include: Andrew Bates, Robert Lowe, Kaleb Kulow, Beau Morley and James Bates.
“All the boys had personal best times on the tough course and we challenged ourselves to run faster and keep up with runners from certain teams. It was great to watch,” said Foster.
Patricia Smith placed fourth as an individual in the girls race. This gave her a medal and an automatic place in the state championships.
The state meet will take place in Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City on Oct.17.
