The College of Eastern Utah was among seven organizations that were awarded $500,000 in grants for underground coal mine education and training, according to a Monday press release.
The grants, provided for by the Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act of 2006, will be used by the various groups to provide emergency training to workers and supervisors.
CEU’s grant amounted to $54,000 while other grants affecting the local area include one give to the United Mine Workers of America Career Center for $73,000.
