Dino golf wins region title,takes third at state tournament

On Sept. 27 the Carbon High golf team wrapped up the region title as they finished in first place at the final region match of the year. The team total of 321 put the Dinos 8 shots ahead of second place Juan Diego and they finished a whopping 100 strokes ahead for the entire season.
The team leaders were Jordan Pinedo with a 76, Shayne Burke with a 78, Jason Child who finished with an 83, and Corbin Black and Geoff Vogel both had 84’s. The team also had five of the top 10 individual leaders in the entire region for the year with Shayne Burke finishing in second place, Jordan Pinedo in fifth place, Jason Child in sixth place.
Geoff Vogel finished in seveth place, and Ryan Nelson in eighth place. Other team totals were Juan Diego 329, North Sanpete 351, Emery 354, and Delta 365.
On Oct. 3, the team competed in the first round of the state tournament at Soldier Hollow and had a tremendous first round.
The team total of 326 put the team in a tie for first place with Uintah High School. Park City and Judge were only two shots behind at 328.
The team leaders for the first round were Shayne Burke with an 80, Corbin Black had an 80, Jason Child shot an 82 and Ryan Nelson with an 84.The team battled very hard considering the weather conditions were very cold and windy.
On Thursday, the team played well but not quite good enough to win. The team fell to third place as Uintah and Park City took first and second places respectively. Child was the low scorer for the Dinos coming in with a 75 and Shayne Burke finished with a 78.
Child finished in a tie for sixth place in individual scores for the entire 3A tournament and Burke finished in a tie for 8th place. Vogel finished with an 87 and Pinedo had a 91.
“It was a great year for the Dino Golf team winning the region title and finishing in third place at the State tournament,” said Pinedo. “I wanted to express appreciation to Chris Nelson my assistant coach for all the help this year and also thanks to TK, Kenji, and the entire staff at the golf course for all their help this year.”
