Carbon High selects, announces names of 2007 Sterling Scholar candidates

Kenny Davis

Business, marketing
Kenny Davis has participated in FBLA for the last three years. He won the region competition for word processing one and placed fifth at state for FBLA principles and procedures.
Kenny attended a National Youth Leadership Forum in Houston, Texas. He has never missed an honor roll and has had perfect citizenship since ninth grade. He is vice president of promotion for FBLA and served as treasurer as a junior.
Kenny is the son of Dean and Cally Davis.

Jordan Tatton

Visual arts
Jordan H. Tatton is an understudy to a professional watercolor artist.
Jordan has been active in the Math Engineering Science Achievement Club, the International Club, National Honors Society and Family Career Community Leaders of America.
Jordan has been involved in CHS student government and represented the Helper American Legion Auxiliary at Utah Girls State. She is the daughter of Mike and Michelle Tatton.

Stephanie Koss

Technology
Stephanie Koss has excelled in the drafting and AutoCAD programs at CHS.
Stephanie received the United States Army and U.S. Navy/Marine Corps awards at the 2004 Utah Regional Science Fair.
Stephanie attended the Utah Girls State, where she was elected as a county delegate. She is active in the Castle Valley Community Theatre and has been a member of National Honor Society for three years.
Stephanie is the daughter of Tony and Sheila Koss.

Katie Marx

Mathematics
Katie Jo Marx has received the president’s educational excellence award and placed in the superintendent’s math contest.
The vice president of the FBLA chapter at CHS has placed in regional competitions in business calculations and accounting one.
Katie has participated in National Honor Society, FCCLA and advanced placement classes. She has also taken college courses.
Katie is the daughter of Mary Marx and the late Bryan Marx.

Kirstin Hoyt

Music
Kirstin Hoyt has participated in solo and ensemble for three years. She has received excellent and superior ratings in oboe, piano and vocal performances at region and state levels.
The Eastern Utah Wind Symphony member has performed in regional and Weber State honor bands. She has participated in all-state choir and performed with the Utah Ambassadors. She has been CHS’ outstanding band student for three years.
Kirstin is the daughter of Jana and Steve Hoyt.

Paul Goodrich

Science
Paul Goodrich has completed several research projects while being highly involved in science at CHS. He has done extensive study on proteins and plant growth.
In addition to being named science student of the month in November 2005, Paul attended the Human Genetics Convention in Salt Lake City. He also received the highest possible score of a five on the advanced placement biology exam.
Paul is the son of Russell and Karen Goodrich.

Kevin Johnson

Speech, drama
Kevin Johnson sports a 3.93 grade point average, earned a 25 on the ACT and placed in the nation’s top 10 percent on the Iowa Test.
The CHS studentbody president serves as the local National Honor Society chapter’s historian and is a member of the county youth commission.
He has won two regional straight superior medals and one state straight superior medal at drama competitions.
Kevin is the son of Toni and Kimball Johnson.

Tiffany Larsen

Social science
Tiffany Larsen captured second place at the regional history fair and competed at the state event. She has taken all advanced placement classes available at CHS. She earned a 3 on the AP history test, a 4 in the AP biology and a 3 on the AP English exam.
Tiffany has been recognized in Who’s Who Among High School Students for three years. She has participated at regional and state drama competitions.
Tiffany is the daughter of Dwayne and Tina Larsen.

Andy Olsen

General
Andy Olsen has excelled in all scholastic aspects at CHS. He has represented the school as president and a member of Future Business Leaders of America. Earning state level awards in FCCLA and FBLA, he has been a member of the Mesa Club for four years.
Andy has participated in the vocal jazz and acapella choirs along with the jazz band. He has taken many honors and advance placement classes.
Andy is the son of Jeannee Olsen.

Carrie Fleck

English
Carrie Fleck has participated in journalism and college-level English classes throughout high school.
Recognized as an outstanding English student, she has served as the editor of the CHS newspaper. She has placed in school and regional science fairs. A recipient of the president’s award for academic excellence, she is FCCLA vice president and secretary of the CHS chapter of National Honor Society.
Carrie is the daughter of Ken and Michelle Fleck.

Jessica Juliano

Foreign language
Jessica Juliano has participated in concurrent enrollment program for three years. She will graduate in spring 2007 with an associate’s degree in science.
A yearbook editor, Jessica serves as the CHS National Honor Society vice president. She has been involved in the International Club for two years. She has been in advance placement English and Literature composition classes.
Jessica is the daughter of Joseph and Pamela Juliano.

Venyce Martinez

Family, consumer science
Venyce Martinez has been a member and chapter officer in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America for four years. She won second place at state for chapter service.
Venyce has achieved the power of one and step one awards. She is a member of student government and editor of the CHS newspaper. She is active in the International Club, the county youth commission and National Honor Society.
Venyce is the daughter of Michael and Beverly Martinez.
