First baseman Kyle Asay keeps a runner close to the bag during last year’s game against Grand.

An early season game to shake off the dust was just what the Dinos needed to begin their season. Carbon traveled down to the warmth of Moab to take on Grand to open their season.
Three innings of shutout ball for both teams showcased some good defense for such an early season showdown. Grand broke the ice first with two in the fourth. Carbon settled down and showed more patience at the plate and the result was a five run sixth to take the lead for good. Grand added three in the next two innings and Carbon stuck on one more for insurance and the win.
Coach Moynier was pleased with what he saw. Even though Turcasso was listed as the winning pitcher, he treated the game as a practice game and gave four different pitchers some mound time. No one pitched more than two innings.
“We played some good defense,” he remarked.” Both teams did. It was a well played game for so early in the season.” As far as the offense, he felt as though they came out too aggressive. “They were swinging at bad pitches, popping up and not hitting the ball hard in the first few innings.”
The team will play this weekend in St. George in the Pizza Hut Classic. Last year the weather turned cold even in Dixie. The team is hoping for some better weather this year to get in some quality games.
