Tiller to take the reins for Carbon High school football

For the third year in a row Carbon High football has a new head coach. Tim Tiller has been named to the position after a two year stint as head coach for Mont Harmon Junior High’s football program. Carbon High principal Robert Cox confirmed the hire and was pleased with the selection. “The young men he has coached already like him and are excited to play for him. It will be a bit tough with three coaches in three years, but we will work through it and be okay.”
Since Tiller has already seen many of the boys currently on the team in his junior high program, he will bring some familiarity to the program despite the coaching changes it has gone through in the past few years. Many familiar faces will join him as part of his staff. Long time special teams coach Lou Mele is returning as well as Reese Barrick and Rex Jeppson. Also on the sidelines will be Brandon Wilde, Jason Tatton and Jeff Cisneros.
Tiller brings experience from playing on the field as well as from his coaching days. He played for Helper Junior High in the 80’s. As a well rounded athlete he played all sports and was named Helper Junior High Athlete of the Year in 1985.
His family moved to San Antonio Texas during his high school years. He lettered in three sports while attending school there. He was also named to the Texas All-State team as a wider receiver in both his junior and senior years.
Tiller will be attending CEU to get his composite teaching certificate and expects that to take about a year and a half. He knows that the program needs help in turning itself around. There will be a player and parent meeting on March 21st at 7 p.m. at the Carbon High gym. The team will then begin to start pre-season conditioning sessions as of March 26.
Tiller says he appreciates the chance the school is giving him to try and turn the football program at Carbon around. He feels that this will be one of the best groups of kids at every level of the program that Carbon has seen in a while.
“There are quite a few talented athletes in the program this season and I want to see if we can show them how to win,” concluded the new coach.
