The boys of summer headed east and came home with three wins to show for the weekend. They took a 9-5 win over Windsor and then an 11-9 victory of Moffet County before closing out with a 12-3 win over Olatha on Saturday.
Even though the team came out on top on all three games, things didn’t always look rosy for the team. Defense was the squad’s weakness as they let unearned runs cross the plate. That was certainly the case in their first game against Windsor. Five unearned runs by their opponent put the Dinos in a big hole. Tyler Turcasso came on to pitch in the second and shut down the scoring. He pitched shut out ball the rest of the way. Brady Wilde was the offensive hero as he hit a homer in the seventh to tie things up. He came up again in the ninth and blasted a three run shot over the fence to seal the win.
The game against Moffet County saw more defensive errors, but the bats had come alive and it kept the team in the game. Even though both teams scored a lot of runs, Coach Moynier felt he got solid performances from his pitchers. Bret Johnson went five innings. TJ Cartwright came on in relief and pitched two. The Dinos had a good lead, but let their opponents back in the game. The hitting was there when the team needed it and they held on to win.
Their best outing of the tournament came against hometown team Olatha. Jordan Moynier pitched a complete game and held Olatha to only three runs. JJ Blue had a monster game at the plate with 7 RBI’s and a homerun.
Coach Moynier summed up the experience as being good for the team. He was pleased to see that the team had decided to stay focused during the road trip and be ready to play. The previous week at St. George, the boys had stayed up a bit too late and were not prepared to play.
The teams pitching and hitting is coming along well considering how early it is in the season. Moynier sees that defense is the area he needs to concentrate on this week as the team prepares to meet up with ALA on Thursday. That game will be here in Price as the ALA field is still not ready for play. The game will start at 3:30 p.m. at the Carbon High baseball field.
