Dale ‘Swanie’ Swanson
PRICE – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and longtime friend, Dale Eugene Swanson, age 70 passed away unexpectedly Aug. 31, 2007.
He was born March 17, 1937 in Boulder, Colo., to Bert John and Velma Dunkin Swanson. Married Merle Ann Olsen June 1, 1956 in Dragerton.
Dale was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1956.
In 1992, Dale retired from Phillips 66 as a field representative with 31 years of service.
He was a proud and highly recognized member of the Carbon County Search and Rescue from 1981-2001. During his 19 years, Dale served as the quarter master for Carbon County, quarter master for the State of Utah, and served two terms as the state commander.
Dale was always held in the highest esteem for his determination and dedication to others.
“Swanie” enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and trapshooting. He was a past president of the Helper Gun Club.
His love for the outdoors always took him to his “getaway hideout,” located in the Koosharem area where he spent many fun-filled days with his friends and neighbors.
Dale never retired, but in his later years he enjoyed showing his 1953 Mercury. Swanie will always be remembered as a “wheeler dealer” and a great collector of petroleum memorabilia.
He will dearly missed by his loved ones and the many others he touched over the years.
Survived by his wife, Merle Swanson, Helper; his little shadow, Sassy; daughter, Dalene (Larry) Olsen, Price; son, Kevin (Andrea) Swanson, Price; sister, Marilyn Rossell, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Brandon (Claudia) Erickson, Salt Lake; Brian Erickson, Grand Junction, Colo.; Brittnie (Bill) Adams, Vernal; Kelsey Swanson, Price; and nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold.
Funeral service, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m., Helper LDS Stake Center. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Frank Juliano
PRICE – Frank Martin Juliano, age 78, died Sept. 2, 2007 while surrounded by family at his home.
He was born July 19, 1929 in Standardville to John and Mary Nick Juliano. He married Betty Robles on March 9, 1958 in San Francisco, Calif.
Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1946 during the occupation of Japan and was stationed in Yokohamo.
Frank spent a lifetime serving drinks and enjoyed the company of family and friends at the Matador. Many loyal friends and businessmen stopped to eat and pay a visit to Frank and his two aunts, Josephine and Paulmina.
Frank is survived by wife, Betty; son, Franky and Jamie; grandchildren, Jeremy and Megan, Matthew and Sara, Zachary, Willie and Jenna; daughter; Yvonne Hale; grandchildren, Jayson, Troy and Chrisdee, Raquel and Cory; brother, Sam and Sr. Jean Juliano; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of friends. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Elvin (Fudd) and Vincent Juliano.
Funeral Mass Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Friday evening, 7 p.m., at the church in Price. Family and friends are welcome one hour prior to services.
Special thanks to the VA Hospital and staff, Home Health, Hospice, Lincare, Praxair, Dr. Max Morgan, Adam Callahan and Dr. Morgan’s entire staff for being so kind to Frank.

SFC Rocky Herrera
SALT LAKE – SFC Rocky H. Herrera, 43, died heroically in Jaji, Afghanistan, while serving his country on Aug. 8, 2007.
Born on May 22, 1964 to Henry Herrera and Elaine Campbell Herrera in Salt Lake City. Rocky married his wife, Traci, on Oct. 13, 1990.
Rocky was a very proud father of four and was lucky enough to meet his granddaughter while on leave in May.
Rocky graduated from West High School, where he excelled in wrestling. Rocky also was a very talented boxer and spent numerous hours at the Leo Montoya Gym.
Rocky enjoyed being with his family. When Rocky had time he took advantage of any opportunity he could to spend outdoors, he was a consummate fisherman. Camping, hunting and woodwork were other hobbies Rocky enjoyed.
Rocky will be missed tremendously by everyone who had the pleasure to meet and know him.
Survived by his wife, Traci; two sons, Matthew and Mark; two daughters, Tristan and Clairessa; one granddaughter, Kylie; his mother, Elaine; brother, Angelo (Vickie); sister Jeri (Andrea); six nieces and one nephew. Preceded in death by his father, Henry Herrera.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 5 at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Most Rev. John C. Wester, Catholic Bishop of Salt Lake City, presiding. Graveside services followed at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery with military honor guard.
Victor Dunegan
PRICE – Our loving father, son, brother and friend, Victor Drake Dunegan, age 23, died Aug. 31, 2007 at his home in East Carbon.
He was born Aug. 24, 1984 in Cotton Wood, Ariz., to Mark Jeffery and Bebra Violet Allen Dunegan.
Vic loved the outdoors and spending time with his friends fishing, hiking and playing basketball.
He was a hard worker and loved to help others. He loved to tease people and see them laugh. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his son.
Victor touched the lives of many, and will always be remembered for his charming personality.
Survived by his parents, Debra (Victor) Herrera, Price; father, Mark Dunegan, Arizona; son, Vagen Drake Dunegan, Wellington; brothers and sisters, Andrew, Torry; Sheila Dunegan, Price; Timothy Harrison Dunegan, Tiffany Marie Dunegan, Nicole Ann Dunegan, all of Arizona; special little girls, Lily and Tianna McMillian, East Carbon; girlfriend, Jenifer Dickerson, East Carbon; grandparents, Moises (Albina) Herrera, Price; best friend, Megan Higginbotham, Wellington; homies, Tracy Olson, Gilbert Madrid, Frankie Sanderson, all of Price; David Hayes, Grand Junction, Colo.; one niece and four nephews.
