Carol Anne Holt
PRICE – Our beloved mother, Carol Anne Holt, returned peacefully to our Heavenly Father on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007. Her passing was unexpected.
She was born in Price to loving parents, Ted and Joyce Jensen, on Nov. 6, 1956. She married her eternal sweetheart, Erroll Gregory Holt, on Sept.23, 1977 in the Manti LDS Temple.
They built a loving home in Price that would eventually welcome three sons, Derick Garey, Richard Frank and Mathew Tameichi.
Mom’s love of learning was passed to her sons, who have each received baccalaureate degrees and continued their graduate educations in medicine.
As a young girl, she excelled in school and actively participated in community and church organizations.
She graduated from Carbon High School with high honors in 1974 and then continued her education at the College of Eastern Utah, where she focused her studies on education and childhood development. She graduated as valedictorian in 1976 and received a full scholarship to continue her studies at Brigham Young University.
Although she forsook the completion of her own education to care for her family, she continued to work in the education field for nearly 20 years. She was an employee of the Carbon School District for over 15 years where, as an administrative assistant, she was an instrumental part of several district programs including student nutrition, driver’s education and federal grant management.
She developed many talents and gifts through her life and enjoyed sharing these with others, including the gift for teaching, quilting and cooking.
She enriched our lives through her contagious optimism, wonderful sense of humor and beautiful laugh.
Throughout her life, she remained a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and exemplified the virtues of her religion through countless acts of love and service.
Very simply, love was the guiding principle of her life, and she found joy and happiness as she selflessly gave of her time and talents.
Her courage and faith in the face of significant challenges was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Her family was the center of her life.
She is survived by her father, Ted Jensen; two brothers, Steve and Doug Jensen; two sisters, Judy Taylor and Nancy Park. She is also survived by her husband; the three sons mentioned above and three daughters-in-law, Candas, Heather and Sarah Holt. We are certain that her angelic influence will continue to rest over her cherished grandsons, Jaydn, Parker, Eric, Brenon, and Kailer Holt. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Joyce Jensen.
Thank you, Mom, for your simple, pure love that permeated everyone and everything you touched.
Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Price LDS Stake Center, 150 South 500 East. A viewing will Friday, Sept. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and one hour prior to services at the chapel. She will be laid to rest in the Orangeville City Cemetery next to her beloved mother, Joyce.
Kathryn Howa
PRICE – Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, Kathryn Woodard Howa, age 88, left this world Sept. 18, 2007 to enter into a new and everlasting life with almighty God. Her 11 children were blessed to be with her during the last days.
She was born Sept. 2, 1919 in Panguitch to Deward and Blanche Heywood Woodard. Married John Mose Howa April 26, 1941 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper. John preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2005.
Member Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was a teacher of CCD. She was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women and a proud member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Monday night ladies bowling league for many years.
Kathryn gave unconditional love to all who knew her, and she was an inspiration and friend to all.
Survived by one daughter, and 10 sons, Jean Ann (Kay) Dimick, Helper; Mose John Howa and Rose, Deward Lee (Linda) Howa, Robert Lynn (Linda) Howa, Daniel (Debra) Howa, Price; Rex Abraham Howa and Jan, Vernal; Roy Christopher (Jackie) Howa, Mesa, Ariz.; Paul Joseph (Udella) Howa, Price; Philip James (Jamie) Howa, Edward J. (Wilma) Howa, Helper; Frank Mathew (Nancy) Howa, Los Angeles, Calif.; four sisters, Beth Whitney, Taylorsville; Diane Cadol, Fort Collins, Colo.; Gretha (Warren) Eyre, Pleasant Grove; Sybil (James) Taylor, Panguitch; sister-in-law, Kathy Woodard, Panguitch; 33 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, David George; grandson, Lewis Mose Howa; sister, Barbara (Kay) Ipson; brothers, Paul and George Woodard; infant sister, Winifred; and brother-in-law, Paul Whitney.
Funeral Mass, Saturday, Sept. 22, 11 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil service starts at 7 p.m. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Notre Dame de Lourdes Building Fund, 160 N. Carbon Avenue, Price, UT 84501.
Don ‘Big D’ Ross
PRICE – Marion Donald Ross, age 85, passed away Sept. 18, 2007 in Salt Lake City.
He was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Arcadia to Silas Acel and Violet Nielsen Ross. On Oct. 20, 1941, he married Barbara “Bobbie” Louise Pessetto in Yuma, Ariz. She passed away on Sept. 16, 1981.
Don attended Carbon High School and Carbon College, where he excelled in athletics and was valedictorian of both graduating classes.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a captain while stationed in Hawaii. After the war ended, he returned to Carbon County where he was influential in the coal mining industry, serving as president of the Utah Coal Mining Operators Association for nearly a decade.
In 1965, he went to work for bureau of mines for one year in Pittsburgh, Pa. While residing in the area, he worked for Joy Manufacturing as the marketing manager over the western hemisphere.
In 1972, Don returned to Carbon County, where he was the vice president/general manager for Kaiser Steel over the Sunnyside operations. He eventually went on to be president for Soldier Creek Coal Company until his retirement.
On Nov. 5, 1983, Don married Helen Mele Milovich in Maui, Hawaii.
During their retirement, they spent many fun-filled years in St. George, where he enjoyed golfing and going to Mesquite, Nev.
Survived by his wife, Helen Ross, West Jordan; son, Ron (Ann) Ross, Price; daughters, Cheryl (Manuel) Carrillo, Murray; Shauna (Wally) Snihurowych, Wellington; Helen’s children, Steven (Tammy) Milovich, Valencia, Calif.; Rose Milovich, Danette (Jeff) Steinitz, Logan; Sam (Jody) Milovich, Sandy; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
As a family we are most grateful that dad will be welcomed by his parents; son, Randall K. Ross; brother, Silas; and sister, Colleen DeLorenzo; and other family members; but most of all his beloved wife Bobbie.
God bless you, Dad, You will be missed by those who loved and cared for you.
