Three Carbon County poets were honored at a reception in Moab last Friday, at the release of a new publication by the Moab Poets and Writers group. The book, titled Glyphs III is the latest in an ongoing series publishing essays, poems and short stories about Southeast Utah. The reception was held at the new Grand Center, where four of the authors chosen for publication were asked to read their works, including Cathy Wilson, of Carbonville.
Wilson teaches art at Helper Junior High and writing at the Youth Detention Center. A prolific poet, her works have been included in several anthologies. Both other submissions were selected for the new publication, one poem and one essay, reflections on the nature of Carbon County’s landscape and mining history.
Also honored was Nancy Takacs, professor of English at College of Eastern Utah. She is well-known by local poetry lovers, and has two books of poetry to her credit, with another coming out this year. All three of her submissions were included in the new publication, including two poems and one essay about the Fremont people and Range Creek.
Jan Minich also had three poems included in the new anthology. He recently retired from College of Eastern Utah’s English department. He is also a published author, and has written a series of poems about the women who accompanied Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch. One of these was included in Glyphs III.
