Dispatchers play a very important roll in our community. Without them, our emergency medical technicians, firefighters, and even our police officers could not perform their best.
They are the key person between you and help in an emergency. They answer calls for help everyday, ranging from heart attacks, to auto accidents, to fires, to domestic issues.
They can give you instruction over the phone to help you in an emergency situation (like tell you how to perform the Heimlich maneuver when someone is choking). They are there to help us 24 hours a day, 7days a week.
However, especially in a large scale emergency, we need to remember not to tie up the 911 lines for non-emergencies, and that the radio is one of our best friends for information. And, in some cases, a battery operated or hand-cranked radio is an essential need. KARB 98.3 FM, and KOAL 750 AM are our local emergency broadcast stations.
