Rollover blocks traffic in canyon for seven hours

By Sun Advocate

Carbon County residents who tried to return home from the Wasatch Front after midnight on Monday found themselves either taking the Scofield-Huntington County route or sleeping in their cars early Tuesday morning because of a truck that turned over between Colton and Scofield Junction on Highway 6.
The truck, carrying potassium hydroxide, lost control and flipped over at milepost 217. HAZMAT crews from Carbon County came to the scene to clean up and secure the area, after officials learned about the accident.
“It was an interesting accident, in a place you wouldn’t expect it to be,” said Price Fire chief Paul Bedont on Tuesday morning. “It was a straight part of the road and not a place where you would expect a truck to flip over.”
It took crews about seven hours of work before the load could be secure and the road cleared, with traffic being able to flow over the canyon again at about 7 a.m.
