Whitney Williams slides safely into second in an earlier game. She hit a double in the game against Juan Diego

For most teams, a losing score of 11-2 would not hold a bright side, but for the Lady Dinos it was an improvement against a great team who had beat them 17-0 earlier in the season. It wasn’t as good of a score as the team would have liked, but it was still a lift for a squad that is struggling to win.
The Dinos got off to a good start as they posted a run in the first. The Dinos were poised to shut out Juan Diego in the first when the swirling wind grabbed an infield pop-up and neither Carbon player managed to make the play. Juan Diego scored two as the ball dropped to the ground.
Neither team managed a score in the second but Juan Diego tacked on three in the third.
The game stayed within reach, but the Dinos could not get their bats going against a good Juan Diego pitcher. Paige Pinedo was on the mound for Carbon and was able to hold Juan Diego close until the fifth. It was five in the fifth that sealed the deal for their opponents. Carbon did get one more in the sixth, but it was not nearly enough and Carbon posted another loss.

A Carbon Lady Dino outfielder scouts a hard hit ball during an earlier game. The team will play in Emery on Tuesday.

Ericka Potts went 2-3 on the night with two RBIs. Whitney liams also had a good game, going 2-3 with a pair of doubles. Coach Pinedo concluded “I know I’ve said it before, but we just have a few things to work out before we can win against the good teams.
We are making progress and the girls know it. Third place in the region is within our grasp, but we need to do all the small things right to get there.”
The team will head to Emery for a pair on Thursday.
The Dinos beat the Spartans earlier for their only region win. A win would give Carbon the tie breaker edge if they ended up tied with Emery in the standings.
Two wins would really put them into position to make a move on third place. Delta only has a single game edge ahead of both Carbon and Emery in the standings. Game time will start at 2:30 p.m. in Castle Dale.
