County officials support national effort declaring Child Abuse Prevention Month
Carbon County officials proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Commissioners said they hoped to increase awareness about child abuse and encourage measures to prevent it in the Carbon County region.
Officials encouraged county residents to wear a blue ribbon or display one on the antenna of their vehicles throughout the month. The blue ribbon dates back to 1989, when Bonnie Finney, a grandmother in Virginia, learned of her grandson’s death as a result of child abuse. Finney displayed the ribbon to remember her grandson’s “bruised and battered body.”
Price announces summer reading program for youth in Carbon County
The city of Price will continue conducting its summer reading program this year.
Registration for the program will begin on May 21 and 22 at the Price City Public Library. The program is open to children of all ages and was developed to keep kids reading throughout the summer months.
“Child literacy is a priority here in our community,” said Price Mayor Joe Piccolo.

Utah, Carbon County residents sign petitions to vote on tuition vouchers
More than 130,000 Utahns have signed petitions to compel state lawmakers to place the issue of private school tuition waivers on the election ballot.
According to Utahns for Public Schools, members of the organization circulated petitions at locations across the state and collected significantly more than the 92,500 signatures required to put the matter up for a vote of the people.
On Saturday, members of the group visited the Carbon County area and gathered signatures from registered voters in the Castle Valley region.
