The theatre department at the College of Eastern Utah is proud to announce its second offering for the 2007-2008 season, opening Thursday, Nov. 8 and continuing through Tuesday, Nov. 13.
The theatre will be dark on Sunday.
“Proof”, by David Auburn, winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play, Eastern Utah Theatre is proud to bring this production to the Geary Theatre Stage.
The plot of the play intertwines emotion and mystery.
On the eve of her 25th birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind.
Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all. How much of her father’s madness, or genius, will she inherit?
The play has intrigued me since I first read it,” said Todd Olsen, the production’s director. “It is a character driven play and I think the actors have done a tremendous job of creating a night of theatre that people will enjoy.”
Featured in the play are Phil Smith, Kylee Bird, Zachari Reynolds and Erica Halverson, all sophomores in the theatre program.
The box office opens at 7 p.m. each night. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. In consideration of others, no one under the age of six will be admitted into the production.
