Fire restrictions throughout the majority of Utah will be lifted in time for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
Fire officials are rescinding restrictions on all federal, state and unincorporated private lands with two exceptions.
Effective Aug. 29, restrictions will remain in effect on state, unincorporated private lands and BLM parcels in Tooele County as well as west of Interstate 15 in Utah and Box Elder counties.
Agricultural burning will be permitted in the counties in question.
In addition, fire restrictions will remain in effect on the Colorado River from Dewey Bridge on Utah Highway 128 to the west end of Utah Highway 279 within one-fourth of a mile of the river.
No National Forest lands will remain in restriction.
“While increased moisture and cooler temperatures have reduced the fire danger throughout most of the state people still need to be careful,” said state forester Dick Buehler. “Wildland fire remains a distinct risk until the first frost in fall.”
Fire restrictions remaining in effect prohibit the following acts.
•Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fire of any kind, except campfires within approved firepits and grills provided for, in improved campgrounds, picnic areas, and permanently improved places of habitation, or except as otherwise authorized. Devices fueled by petroleum or liquid propane gas (LPG) products are allowed in all locations.
•Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, camp trailer, or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared to mineral soil.
•Discharging, or using any kind of fireworks, tracer ammunition, or other incendiary devices in any location on federal, state and unincorporated private lands.
The acts are always prohibited on federal lands.
•All other fire restrictions, or necessary exemptions to the restrictions, will be handled through local “permits” issued by the responsible agency for that purpose.
The order does not affect incorporated towns and cities.
