Karen Hopkins
ORANGEVILLE – Karen Lynn Hopkins, age 16, died May 13, 2007 at the University of Utah Hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born Aug. 8, 1990 in Price to Ronald Jerry and Bridget Bonbrake Hopkins.
Karen was a fun-loving and outgoing sophomore at Emery High School, where she made many new friends.
She had many hobbies, but her favorite was talking on the phone.
Karen loved spending time with her family, especially with her sister and brother. She enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, and boating with her foster parents.
Karen will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.
Survived by mother, Bridget (Steven) Preston, East Carbon; father, Ronald Hopkins, Helper; foster parents, Charlotte (Scott) Williams, Orangeville; sister, Sarah Hopkins, Sunnyside; stepbrother, Billyjo Booth, Price; grandparents, Jerry (Karen) Lemon, Sunnyside; David Bonbrake, Indiana; great-grandmother, Opal Lemon, East Carbon; godfather, Ricky (Bobbi Jo) Hopkins, Helper; aunt, Heidi (John) Gragert, Sunnyside; uncle, Shawn (Pam) Bonbrake, Price; and many other loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service Friday, May 18, 10 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Karen’s name to the Eastern Utah Community Credit Union.
Jacquelyn Drossos
PRICE/CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Jacquelyn (Jackie) Drossos passed away May 11, 2007 after a short illness at the hospital in Clackamas, Ore.
Born Nov. 15, 1928 in Rains to Arthur Lamph and Margaret Leona Wycherly Lamph. She married Steven Rodger Drossos May 12, 1951. Jackie lived in Price and graduated from Carbon High School in 1947.
She worked in the telephone office in Price and also for many years in Clackamas, Ore.
She loved her family very much. She will be missed.
Survived by daughter, Irene Drossos of Ckackamas, Ore.; sisters, Pat (Ray) Richens of Price; Terri (Jeff) Clawson of Rhode Island, Wyo.; brother, Ted (Georgia) Lamph of Concord, Calif.; and brother-in-law, Jim Simone; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, Steve; son, Steve; parents; sisters, Barbara (Bobbie) and Chuck Cuburu; Wilma (Billie) Jeanne Simone; and Michele Leigh Lamph.
Interment, Clackamas cemetery in Oregon.
Eutimio ‘Tim’ Sanchez
SUNNYSIDE – Our loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend, Tim Sanchez, age 60, passed away peacefully in his home on May 11, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 2, 1947 in Gallup, N.M., to Eugene and Paula Sanchez.
Tim had a big, generous heart and loved to make people laugh. His sense of humor could always keep you laughing and put a smile on your face.
He loved to spend time with his five dogs, especially Louie. He loved the outdoors and going fishing with his friends. Even just spending time relaxing in his yard. He was also a great collector of antiques.
He was proud to serve his country in Vietnam. He was an artist in his profession as a hardwood floor and refinishing installer.
He will truly be missed by all.
He is survived by wife, Diane; daughters, Kimberly (Burton) Berry, Krys (Ray) Cordova; JoVonne Sanchez; grandchildren, Jerrica, Josh and Jackson; brothers, Gilbert, Gerald, Jacob and George; sisters, Veronica, Lyn, Marcia, Gina and Pearl. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Eloy; and sister, Angela.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
Owen Price
ORANGEVILLE – Owen Dale Price, 93, died May 12, 2007 in Price of complications from pneumonia.
He was born April 17, 1914 in Clawson to William Henry Price and Lydia Jane Metcalf. He married Glenna Amanda Cox on Nov. 26, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Owen attended schools in Clawson and Ferron. He was a member of the CCCs and enjoyed the association with the members for many years.
He proudly served his country in the European Theater in World War II.
He owned and operated Owen D. Price Construction for many years and built many of the existing roads and structures throughout Emery and Carbon counties, including many of the roads to the uranium mines in southeastern Utah.
He was an active member of the Emery County Historical Society and also a member of the American Legion.
He was very knowledgeable of the San Rafael Swell, Nine Mile and Range Creek areas, and he loved sharing his knowledge of these places with others.
His favorite place to be was on the desert with his wife, his horses and his dogs.
He is survived by son, David Owen, Castle Dale; daughters, Connie (John) Wickman; Kathy (Royal) Ockey, both of Orangeville; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel Price, Wellington; sister, Dora Fautin, Lindon; brother-in-law, Merrill (Elaine) Cox, Provo; and sister-in-law, Diana Cox, Price. Preceded in death by wife, Glenna; daughter, Patricia Huntington; four sisters; and six brothers.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 16, at 11 a.m., at Ferron City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Interment, Ferron City Cemetery.
Jean Wilcock
SWEETS/KEARNS – Ethel Jean Williams Wilcock, age 69, passed away suddenly May 11, 2007 at Pioneer Valley Hospital.
She was born March 19, 1938 in Sweets to Richard and Ethel Gilbert Williams. Married James Edward Wilcock Nov. 24, 1956 in Salt Lake City; he died Oct. 26, 1986.
Member of the Church of Christ, where she was actively involved in many youth programs.
Jean was very crafty. She loved to work with her hands and could craft about anything.
She loved quilting, crocheting, and doing embroidery work.
Jean enjoyed traveling with her family while her husband was serving in the military.
She will be dearly missed by family and many longtime friends.
Survived by three sons, Ricky James (Lyndle) Wilcock, Garland, Texas; Adam Scott Wilcock, Kearns; Brad Andrew (Corinne) Wilcock, Severn, Maryland; six grandchildren, James, Rebecca, Amber, Logan, Zera and Angel; three sisters and two brothers, Dixie (John) Platt, Karen Burke, Steven (Anita) Williams, all of Salt Lake City; Kay (Chuck) Jorgensen, Magna; and Joe “T.J.” (Shirley) Williams, Sandy. Preceded in death by parents; infant brother, Richard; and sister, Belva Barnes.
Graveside service Wednesday, May 16, 1 p.m., at Price City Cemetery. Family will gather at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price Wednesday from noon to 12:45 p.m.
Ben Coomer
WELLINGTON/ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Ben Coomer, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque, N.M., on April 27, 2007 after a lingering illness.
Ben was the youngest of six children born to Major and Jane Bryant Coomer on Oct. 1, 1924 in Primrose, Ky.
Ben married Erma Evans Sept. 26, 1947 in Wellington. Two sons were born to this union, Ben Carlo Coomer (Lana) of Green River and Bruce Everett Coomer (Patricia) of Arizona. He also adopted Erma’s daughter, Frankie Lee Belt Coomer of Green River. Ben and Erma later divorced.
Ben then married Lois Naranjo on June 27, 1976 in Craig, Colo. During the course of their marriage they lived in Colorado, Nevada, Alaska, Texas, Philippines (during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption) and New Mexico.
Ben was raised in hard times in eastern Kentucky and, in 1939, lied about his age and joined the U.S. Army. He was just 15 years old. His adventures in the Army led him to see action in North Africa, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, and all of the major battles of the Italian mainland.
During the war years in Italy, Ben became fluent in Italian and loved speaking the language to the first and second generation Italians in Carbon County.
After the war, Ben made his way to Utah, where he worked in the coal mines of Carbon and Emery counties.
He later went into business for himself and owned and operated many successful cafes and restaurant in several cities in Utah and Colorado.
Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Everett Coomer, Ervie Coomer; sisters, Reba Coomer, Lula Mae Coomer and Dosha “Micky” Calabrese (Fredrico).
