| Motorists will now get better information about construction projects. |
The Utah Department of Transportation recently introduced its “Know Where, Know Why” construction information campaign aimed at providing more information to travelers about Utah’s major road construction projects.
The number of road construction projects has been increasing in recent years. UDOT has identified its top 21 projects and the impacts those projects will have to the traveling public. UDOT hopes to reduce traffic delays through better planning, negotiation with contractors, and communicating with drivers.The public will find information about construction impacts via the following outlets.
•Radio. UDOT will sponsor traffic segments on a variety of stations and provide information for live reads about significant construction projects leading into holiday or peak travel times.•Web site. The UDOT Guide to 2007 Road Construction is now live at udot.utah.gov. The site identifies the locations of the 21 most significant projects.When users scroll their mouse over projects, up-to-date information will appear regarding the project, when construction is scheduled and the expected traffic impact from construction.
•Guide to 2007 Road Construction. The guide, which incorporates the same information as the web site, will be available at lodging properties in Utah. It will also be available at Subway restaurants locations throughout the state.
•Traffic Concierge. In discussions with several lodging properties, UDOT identified that front desks are frequently asked for directions from motorists both coming and going. UDOT will distribute a weekly e-mail and fax blast called the Traffic Concierge, which will make hosts aware of construction updates and enable them to provide alternate routes, positioning them as knowledgeable hosts for their guests.
By knowing the where and why behind each project, UDOT hopes that Utah motorists will better prepare for traveling this season, whether commuting to work or going to one of Utah’s many popular vacation areas.
