Helen Dunford
SUNNYSIDE/CEDAR CITY – Our sweet mom, grandma, great-grandma and sister returned to her Heavenly Father with her family by her side on Oct. 2, 2006 due to circumstances of congestive heart failure.
She was born May 4, 1920 in Orangeville to Alma Asahel and Artimesia Burnett Scovill and lived there until she graduated from high school. She married Avery A. Dunford in Provo on July 7, 1943; their marriage was later sealed in the Mt. Timpanogos LDS Temple. They spent most of their married life in Sunnyside and after 57 years of marriage he preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1999.
She moved to Cedar City after her husband died to be near her daughter and her family. She loved the scenery and found beauty in every rock she saw. She loved hand work and gardening. She made over 200 counted cross stitch pictures and gave most of them away. Her biggest love was her family. She was so proud of all of them and loved them very much.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Members of the Wagon Trail Ward in Cedar City for their many acts of kindness and help. Especially her bishop, home and visiting teachers. All the staff at Emerald Pointe, Marie and Sherleen at Iron County Home Health and Ethan with hospice. You all made her life here so much nicer and her passing easier.
She is survived by two children, Shirley (Bert) Pressett of Cedar City; Paul (Iris) Dunford of Paonia, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Kaye Manhart of Orem; four grandchildren, Chad (Leanne) Dunford, Orem; Lori Pressett of Las Vegas, Nev.; Jeremy Pressett of Parowan; and Shannon Dunford of Paonia, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Sara, Ian, Alslynn and Cole Dunford; brothers, Alma Scovill, and Claude Scovill; and one sister, Emma Jean Chidester. Preceded in death by her husband; son, Donald Avery Dunford; great-grandson, Logan Dunford; parents; brothers, Amasa, Orien, Elmer, and Van; and sisters, Leola and Sara.
Funeral service Friday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m., Wellington LDS Stake Center, 935 E. Main Street in Wellington. Family will be at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Interment, Price city cemetery.
Kathleen Vilos
EMERY COUNTY – Kathleen Chapman Vilos left this life on October 2, 2006 with her family by her side at the age of 61.
Kathleen was one of few women who worked for Consolidated Coal Company in Emery. While there she served as recording secretary for the local union 1261 and was eventually elected as president of this local. She actively participated in safety and election committees and was a negotiator for employee grievances. Kathy was also elected to serve as the financial secretary for the United Mine Workers, District 11, a position she proudly held for five years. She devoted 25 years as a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Besides working hard to provide a good life for her family, Kathy also enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and a good political discussion. The things we will miss most about Kathy are her humble spirit, generosity to anyone in need, her witty sense of humor, contagious smile and openness to all walks of life.
Kathleen was the beloved wife of the late John G., loving mother of Steve Busch (Tracie), Scott Busch (Cindy), Jennifer Busch (Julie), Cherish; dear grandmother of Tashia, Devon, Ian, Sean, Stevie, David, Tyler, Vance, Kolton, Kylie; great-grandmother of Nevaeh. She was the devoted daughter of Ruth Wadsworth; fond sister of Carla Kimball, Dorothy Espinoza, Bud Chapman, and Peg Stultz; also nieces and nephews; amazing friends and her two favorite pals, Bunny and Bob. Kathleen is welcomed home by eternal companion and soul mate John; sister, Mary Nelson; father, Horace A. Chapman (Bud); and grandson, Jeffrey Busch.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Granite LDS Ward Chapel, 9575 South 3100 East, Sandy. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior to the service under the direction of SereniCare Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at the Mountainview Cemetery in Helper.
Robert Winn
PRICE – Robert Lytle Winn, age 72, passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 in St. George while surrounded by his family.
He was born June 2, 1934 in Manti to Eden Lorus and Ruby Merriam Winn. Married Zenna Mae Olsen Sept. 18, 1953 in Spring Glen; their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Robert was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he enjoyed serving in the temple. In his early years Robert worked for Dinosaur Tire, mined potash in Moab, and worked in various coal mines in the Price area. He later moved to Colorado where he continued working in the coal mines with his sons. After returning to Price he worked for the Utah Housing Authority until Robert and Mae decided to retire and start traveling. Upon Mae’s death on July of 1998, Robert moved to St. George where he worked for the Meadows Assisted Living, and at the time of his death he was working at the Quality Inn in St. George. He loved to spend time with his family while traveling, and he also enjoyed fishing, camping, shopping, watching and visiting with people.
Survived by sons, George (Marnie) Winn, Mark (Lori) Winn; daughter, Cherri (Nyal) Littlefield; brother, Ray; sister, Marjorie; five loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Zenna Mae; and one grandson.
Graveside service Saturday, Oct. 7, noon, Price city cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation and viewing at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
William Poglajen
SUNNYSIDE – William J. Poglajen, age 86, passed away Sept. 30, 2006 in Price.
He was born Aug. 5, 1920 in Sunnyside to Frank and Katherine Delac Poglajen.
Willie was in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended Airplane Electrical School at Chanute Field. Served in the Western Pacific Theater as an airplane electrician. He was with the 56th Depot Repair Squadron.
He worked for United States Steel Corp as a shop Maintenance mechanic.
He was a York Rite of Free Masonry. El Kalah Temple (Shriner) BPO Elks, and an American Legion and SNPJ Lodge member, Slovenian Home in Spring Glen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and growing beautiful roses.
Survived by sister, LaVay (Bob) Reynolds; brother, Carl (Jacquelyn) Poglajen; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; three brothers and three sisters.
His request was to be cremated and to have no funeral services. Under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Jamie Vance
CLEVELAND/W. JORDAN – Jamie Lynn Vance passed away Oct. 3, 2006.
Jamie Lynn Vance was born May 28, 1985 to Nancy Lynn Vance and Chris K. Vance in Salt Lake City.
She graduated from Valley High School and was attending the Francois D Hair Academy. She worked at Lason in Salt Lake City, also ACS.
Jamie loved her two dogs, Cole and Lexie. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and being with her friends and family.
My daughter, my friend, you will always be missed. We love you so much. I’m glad you are at peace now.
Jamie is survived by mother; father; brother, Bob (Rachel) Horsley; grandmothers, Wilma Kummer and Joyce Vance; friends, Josh and Justine; and many others who loved her. Preceded in death by grandfathers, R. Lamar Kummer and Terrell Vance.
We express our thanks to the West Jordan Police Department, especially Det. Randy Anglesey, Diane Greaves, Cecilia Budd, and all of those who have expressed your thoughts and prayers to our family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., at the Fontain Clair LDS Ward Chapel at 1465 West 8440 South with a viewing from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Cleveland city cemetery.
