Paul Goodrich accepts all region and academic All-State honors during Region 8 competition on the Carbon High field last week. |
Each year the best cross country runners from high schools around the state converge on Sugar House Park in Salt Lake for the annual state cross country meet. This year that event took place on Oct. 18 and the Carbon boys Cross Country team participated with seven runners.
There were 114 runners in the 3A division, where the Carbon boys competed. In addition there were hundreds more on the course because the other four divisions in the state participate at the same time.
Carbon’s Paul Goodrich was right in the pack, finishing 11th. He was only one second behind the 10th place finisher and 8 seconds out of fifth place. His time was a respectable 16:51.9.
The Carbon team took 14th place overall. Other Carbon runners, in the order that they finished, were Kent Olsen, Travis Hepworth, Jared Richens, Beau Morley, Andrew Bates and Brett Wells.
Goodrich was also selected for the Utah High School Activities Association Academic All-State Cross Country Team. He maintains a 3.98 GPA in his studies at Carbon and has been a leader on the team since his days as a freshman.
