Shylie Richardson, a seventh grader at Helper Junior High misses her final word, “curriculum,” in the Carbon School District spelling bee. Fifth grader Destiny Brasher, representing Sally Mauro Elementary proceeded to spell the word correctly and immediately spelled “interdisciplinary” correctly to cinch the district win. Finalists from elementary and junior high schools through the district vied for the win. Brasher and Richardson will go to regional competition later this month along with Albert Jeffs, a fourth grader at Sally Mauro Elementary, who took third. Other students at the regional bee will represent schools from Emery, Grand and San Juan school districts.
