Struggle was the name of the game for the CEU women in the Region 18 tournament. A loss to Dixie State sent them packing home after a first round loss. |
Traveling up to Northern Idaho to play in the Region 18 Tournament could have been a chance for the Eagles to redeem a season that began full of promise.
Early in November the squad was ranked 24th in the Nation, but that proved to be the high point of what turned out to be an otherwise mediocre season.
Finishing fifth in the conference the women ended up matched against Dixie State College in the tournament. But what should have been a evenly matched game turned out anything but that, as the Lady Rebels beat up on the Lady Eagles 96-65.
CEU was not able to put a point on the board until after six minutes had gone by. A free throw shot made by Halee Rasmussen got the team their first point and by then they were already in a hole by 13.
By the end of the first half they were looking up at a 17 point deficit. Dixie dominated the paint and was able to hit 24 from inside while CEU could only get two from close range.
The second period saw a lot of the same. CEU was able to step up their inside game, but they could not get their defense rolling and Dixie added another 50 points to finish off the Eagles in the tournament and for the season.
Leading scorer for the Eagles was Kaylynn Fager who came off the bench. Staci Little led the team with 12 rebounds and was especially productive grabbing the offensive misses.
With the loss to Dixie, the CEU women close out their season with an early exit from the Region 18 conference tournament.
