The buildings which will house the pistol range at the North Springs Shooting Range near Hiawatha are under construction, along with a long range shooting venue and the “Cowboy Town” that sits near the pistol range. The handgun range will be equipped with targets which will be computer-controlled. The range will be dual-purposed, both offering shooting practice to gun enthusiasts and providing training facilities for Carbon County law enforcement. The work is being funded by grants and loans totalling more than $2.5 million and the Carbon County Recreation and Transportation Special Service District, which is providing $500,000.
