Rae O’Brien


KENILWORTH – Ila “Rae” Leavitt O’Brien, age 79, passed away June 10, 2006 at Castle Country Care Center in Price.
She was born April 30, 1927 in Kenilworth, to Cliff and Ida Winters Leavitt. Married Nick Flemetakis, he later died. Married Bill O’Brien, he later died.
Longtime resident of Kenilworth where she attended schools in Carbon County.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survived by sons, Bill (Gloria) Flemetakis, Kenilworth; Stephen Jay (Sandy) Flemetakis, Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Ned (Gerri) Leavitt, Orangeville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; husbands; son, Dave Flemetakis; daughter, Nikki Rae Flemetakis; and sister, Colleen Butler.
Memorial graveside service, Saturday, June 17, 11 a.m., Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.


Betty Perez


HELPER – Betty Jean Perez, age 66, passed away June 11, 2006 in Helper
Born Feb. 29, 1940 in Stillwater, Minn., to Lewis David and Mavis Marie Breest Linder. Married Manuel Perez, later divorced.
She was a valued employee at Sudsy Duds laundry service for many years.
Betty enjoyed playing Bingo at St. Anthony’s church in Helper.
She was a big part of raising her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Survived by five children, David (Sheila) Jackson, Clarkston, Wash.; Rose Marie Parry, Sheila (Paul) Perez, Ken Jackson, all of Helper; Vance Dhooge, Spanish Fork; three sisters, Molly Bevans, Marguerite (Bob) Kohl, Geraldine Roettger, all of Stillwater, Minn.; special friend, Manuel Perez; and 12 grandchildren.
Private family service were held under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home


Jackie Vetere


GREEN RIVER – Jacqueline (Jackie) Irene Vetere, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away in her home on June 9, 2006.
She was born June 10, 1938 in Torrington, Wyo.
Jackie spent her early years in La Jara, Colo. She moved to Green River in 1952, where she attended and graduated from Green River High School. While in Green River she met and married her husband of 50 years Jay Vetere in Sedonia, Ariz. on Nov. 12, 1955. Jackie stayed in Green River for a short time with her mother, Esther Tilden after her husband was drafted. She later joined Jay in Washington and Alaska while he was serving in the Army. They made Green River their home in the fall of 1957 and raised their three sons on the family farm, where they instilled good family values and a good work ethic.
Jackie never met a person she didn’t like, and she was loved by all who came in contact with her. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. They were her life, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer them on and encourage them in everything they did.
Jackie was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 46 years. She was a life long member of the Green River Bible Church.
Survived by husband, Jay; three sons, Tim (LuRey), Mitch (Sheri), Greg (Rita), all of Green River; nine beloved grandchildren, Taffee, Jace, Weston, Brittney, Ciji, Blair, Heidi, Jill and Caitlyn, all of Green River; brother, Richard (Bonneta) Delong, Salt Lake City; stepbrother, Gary (Linda) Fluckey, Green River; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by mother, Esther Tilden Fluckey; stepfather, Roger Fluckey; and stepbrother, Dennis Martyn.
Jackie was the essence of kindness and love and she had a complete affection for her family, especially the grandkids. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral service Wednesday, June 14, 11 a.m., Green River Bible Church. Family will be at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Elgin Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.

Darlene Guymon


HUNTINGTON – An elect lady, Darlene (Bell) Guymon, age 78, has been reunited with her beloved husband on Sunday June 11, 2006. She suffered 12 years of illness, through which her faith never wavered.
Born Nov. 3, 1927 in Clearfield to Samuel Joseph Bell and Minnie Elizabeth Woolsey. She was the fourth child of 11, followed 10 minutes later by her twin brother, Darwin. She has five brothers and five sisters. She married her sweetheart, Otto Dal Guymon on Dec. 31, 1945, later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Some of her favorite things were making and teaching ceramics, teddy bears (of all colors and sizes), Wind Song perfume, and Whitman’s chocolates.
Darlene loved the Lord and has always tried to serve him. She had served in many callings. If you asked her most important calling she replied, “Mother!” She enjoyed temple work, her church callings and serving others.
She is survived by her children, Darwin Dal, Danna Jo (Wesley) Gray, Dalene Jean (Louis) Chase, Darce Dee (Peggy), Debra Joene (Dennis) Cox, DeMar Dale (Janice), and Darla Joy (Scott) Wilson. She has 30 grandchildren and 30 and one half great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, husband, two grandchildren, one son-in-law, three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 14, 11 a.m., in the Huntington LDS Stake Center. Viewing Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Fausett Mortuary in Price and one hour prior to services at the stake center.


Gary Kuhns


EAST CARBON – Gary Alan Kuhns, age 59, passed away May 22, 2006 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
He was born Dec. 2, 1946 in Dragerton, to Richard Charles Kuhns Sr. and Lucille Anderson. Married Darlene Collins in 1963, they later divorced. Married Shirley A. Donohoo Sept. 5, 1996.
Gary worked for U.S. Steel and later moved to Mesquite and Wendover, Nev., where he worked as a poker dealer.
He enjoyed playing poker and golfing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survived by wife, Shirley Kuhns, East Carbon; sons, Gary (Lorna) Kuhns, Jacksonville, Fla.; Jeff Kuhns, Rock Springs, Wyo.; brothers, Dan Kuhns, Calif.; Mike Kuhns, Mesa, Ariz.; Steve Kuhns, Colo.; sister-in-law, Becky Kuhns, Mo.; stepchildren, Michelle Keith, Devin Keith, both of Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Matthew and Rachel Kuhns, and Neisha and Taylor Keith. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Richard Kuhns, and David Kuhns.
A celebration of life will be Sunday, June 18, noon, at Joe’s Valley boat ramp.


Loren Long


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Loren L. Long age 80, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006 at his home in Grand Junction, Colo.
Loren was born July 11, 1925 in Norfolk, Neb. He was the son of the late Daniel and Gertrude Long. Loren served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He received his civil engineering degree from Colorado University in Boulder and was employed by Lockheed Missile and Space for over 40 years.
He was a Grand Junction resident from 1996 to 2006.
He enjoyed golf, music and spending time with his family, friends and puppies.
Loren is survived by wife of 31 years, Penny Fowler Long; and brother, Marvin and Eloise Long of Arkansas.
Loren especially loved Mary, Angelo and JayLene, Jeff and Ricki, Tom and Lisa, Angelo and Robin, Amanda and Angelo, Margaret and Eric, and many nieces and nephews. Loren will be remembered as an honest, kind and generous man.
Arrangements are being directed by Martin Mortuary.


Jerry Stofko


CASTLE DALE – Jerry Allen Stofko, age 52, passed away peacefully June 7, 2006 at his home in Castle Dale after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 20, 1954, the fourth of four children in Alton, Ill., to Andrew and Jeanean Sellier Stofko. Married Lois Scott on April 23, 1976 in Alton, Ill.
Jerry was a member of the Mission San Rafael Catholic Church.
He worked for Energy West for 17 years.
Jerry was a hard worker, good husband, and a great dad.
He loved anything to do with the outdoors, if it was just washing his trucks, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, or just hanging outside with his family.
He is survived by parents, Andrew (Jeanean) Stofko; wife, Lois; two daughters, Jeanie (Ian) Denison; Jamie (Dallas) Magnuson; two brothers, Dale and Steven Stofko, all of Castle Dale; sister, Jody (Jim) Benhart, Geneseo, Ill.; four nephews, two great-nephews, three nieces; and two step-grandchildren, Kadian and Douglas Denison.
The family wishes to give great thanks to many friends, Joe (Kim) Edgehouse, Burns (Kathy) Hickman, Gary (Laura) Vipperman, Eddie (Marisa) Gill, Jeff (Tina) Ricchetti, Max (Sheri) Maxwell, Jess (Mindy) Vipperman, Bridgett (Les) Wickersham, Susan, Austin, Robert (Lorrie) Denison, Rocky Mountain Hospice, Cheyenne Turner, and Kay Phelps.
Memorial Mass Tuesday, June 13, 11 a.m., Mission San Rafael Catholic Church. Vigil Service Tuesday, 10 a.m., Committal Service, Castle Dale City cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
