| J.P. Salisbury has been named the new football coach at Carbon High. |
Carbon High Principle Robert Cox confirmed that the high school football program has a new Head Football Coach. J.P. Salisbury will be taking over the coaching duties for the Carbon High Football program. He will have his first official meeting with the team on February 13th. That is the soonest he can make contact with his players due to the restrictions imposed on all teams by the Utah High School Athletic Association.
Coach Salisbury is currently working for Pro Rehab of Price and was the offensive coach for Mont Harmon Junior High last year. He has previously coached football for Lehi under Steve Clements and in Greeley, Colo. under Coach Don Brimley. The new coach also brings in the experience he has had playing and coaching the semi pro Wasatch Wildcats out of Utah County. Salisbury played for three years and was a player coach for two of those years. He also coached the team for one year.
Because he was an assistant coach with Mont Harmon, he knows the incoming sophomores well. He has also had the opportunity to work with some of the older players when they have been rehabbing injuries. After spending much time talking with Salisbury during the hiring process, Cox feel like he showed a great interest in working with the students to improve their outlook on life as well as football.
The coach brings his philosophy that to be successful as an athlete and citizen, you must be held to a high standard. He plans to do that with the members of his team. He wants the kids and the parents to understand that if they want a competitive program it will take a level of commitment beyond the football season. He will expect a year round dedication to conditioning, including weight and speed training.
“A coach that guarantees a certain number of wins is giving out false hope,” stated Salisbury in a phone interview, “I will guarantee a competitive program that we can be proud of.”
He feels he is starting out with a great bunch of kids and hopes that he can make them believers in his commitment to excellence.
Salisbury will remain solely as the football coach while he is attending school to get his teaching certification.
