A Granite player is surrounded by Carbon blue on Friday night as Keith Barker (20), Bryan Gazell (12) and Jordan Moynier (55) surrounds him. |
It’s not that the Granite Farmers, with their 2-9 record, and past years of frustration piled upon others, aren’t used to losing. But it probably seems to them that a welcome to Region 8 play should be, well nicer than this.
The Dinos didn’t win any awards for hospitality on Friday night as the kids from Carbon downed the Farmers 51-32.
Granite actually came to Carbon’s house looking for their second win in a row. The Dinos would have none of that as the largest home crowd of the year was present to watch the Dinos show off their stuff. The boys from Carbon set the tone early in the game with some aggressive defense and sharp offense to take an early lead.
Leading 12-4 in the first quarter, the Dinos kept the pressure on and forced the Salt Lake team to give up the ball and take some bad shots.
The tempo slowed in the third quarter with both teams trading points. However in the fourth quarter, the Dinos poured it on, scoring 18 points to claim a satisfying triumph over the Farmers.
The Carbon squad has been averaging 51 points per game and they hit that mark exactly again Friday night.
Jordan Moynier hit for 14 points to guide the team to victory. Moynier has been averaging 7.5 points per game.
Bryan Gazell is Carbon’s leading scorer, averaging almost 10 point per game. He added six on Friday night.
Schyler Nammany hit two from outside the three point line, with Gazell and Keith Barker also adding a long ball to the total effort.
With the win over Granite, Carbon sits in third place in Region 8 play.
Emery and Juan Diego are ranked ahead of Carbon based on their overall record. Everyone knows that Region 8 will be tough this year with the addition of Juan Diego to the schedule.
Carbon will meet up with Delta in another Region 8 test on the road Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
