Castle Valley residents Blaine Jensen of Cleveland and Doreen McCourt of Wellington compete at the team roping events at the National Finals Rodeo at Las Vegas, Nev.
The pair joined forces to beat 516 other sets of team ropers competing at the national finals last October.
On the ninth preliminary to the grand event, 518 roping teams competed for $88,000 in prize money.
Jensen and McCourt finished second in the preliminary round.
The pair split $7,600 and were awarded trophy buckles for their efforts.
Jensen and McCourt missed qualifying for the big event and a chance to compete for $319,000 by a single throw of the rope.
Jensen and McCourt expect to participate in team roping competitions during 2006.
