Gary Harwood marks the entry of a semi trailer with tape, designating the trailer as a hazardous material site. Yesterday morning, the driver of the truck hauling the trailer lost control of the vehicle. State troopers on the scene reported that the driver admitted he was sleepy. As the trailer came around the last turn before Soldier Summit, the driver reportedly veered off the load and over-corrected. The trailer, operated by Knight Transportation, contained buckets of paint and alcohol. Carbon County’s hazardous material crew, which is based in Helper, responded to the scene. However, because of the level of work involved with cleaning up the tipped trailer, a hazmat team more appropriately equipped for the job was called in from Salt Lake City. State troopers said the driver sustained minor injuries.
