Rantings and Ravings

This is an exciting time of year. It is when local elections pick up steam. It is primary day for several local races. I hope if you haven’t voted yet that this will remind you that you still have time.
I know that some of you will say that you don’t know who is running and for what. Election signs have sprouted up everywhere with candidates’ names and the office they are seeking on them. How can you miss that? Many of the people running have been around long enough that it is hard not to know a little bit about them.
We have had several candidates walking our neighborhood and dropping off flyers and talking with us. I won’t reveal if I’ll vote for any of the ones I have talked to, but I do like the initiative they put forward to try and earn my vote.
For those of you who say that you don’t vote because it doesn’t matter, these are the people who will shape Price and our surrounding communities for the next two to four years. If you don’t vote then you must think that everything is going great. I think things are going pretty good, but there are things I have concerns about.
The people we vote into office will make decisions about roads, taxes, and policies. They will decide on local business issues, the rate of your electric bill (if you live in a couple of communities) and snow removal policies. They make decisions on riding four wheelers in town, and what statues will be erected. They can decide noise ordinances, how many junk cars your neighbor can park in his yard, whether or not you can paint your parking strip pink and florescent green. They decide whether the road department is fixing our pot holes fast enough and if we have enough money in the budget to repave the streets and build sidewalks.
So what is important to you? Are the people currently elected aware of the issues you deem important? Have they done enough to address them? It is each person in this community’s responsibility to make that happen.
I don’t care if you are poor and living off public assistance or rich with so much money you don’t know how to spend it.
Regardless, everyone should vote.
