Loretta Jones
PRICE/ELKO, Nev. – Loretta Elnora Jones, age 78, passed away Oct. 11, 2005 in Elko, Nev.
Loretta was born April 29, 1927 in Price to Howard Charles (Bud) Norton and Fay Russell Norton.
She attended junior high and high school in Price and North Eastern Nevada Community College in Elko, Nev. Loretta married Robert Johnston Jones Jr., of Ashland, Mo., on March 26, 1944 in Price.
She retired from the business office of the Elko County Library accounting department in January of 2000, after 25 years of service.
Loretta was chosen Ms. Senior Elko County in 1990 and represented Elko County on the state level and was honored to bring home to Elko the title of Ms. Elko Senior Nevada 1990. She was Nevada’s contestant in the National Ms. Senior American pageant and received a special award in Atlantic City, N.J.
She enjoyed people, homemaking, crafts, gardening and decorating.
Loretta was a wonderful wife, sister, mother and friend. She will be extremely missed by all who knew her and loved her. May the Lord bless her and keep her in his loving embrace until we meet again.
Loretta is survived by two sons and a daughter, Russell D. Jones, Kim N. Jones and Lorri A. Jones Bottari; son-in-law, Perry W. Bottari; three sisters and two brothers, Lois E. Norton Salzetti and husand Raymond; Barbara Norton Austin and husband Silas (Bud); Davalene Norton Houston and husband Thomas; Howard C. Norton and wife Lucy; Bob G. Norton and wife Dora; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by mother and father; husband, Robert J. Jones Jr.; sons, Robert C. Jones and David L. Jones; and daughter, Vickie M. Jones.
Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 17, 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3210 Sage Crest Drive, Elko, Nev. The family will receive friends at a viewing on Monday, Oct. 17, at the LDS chapel, 1310 Sage Drive in Elko, Nev. Between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
Elaine Dowd
CAMAS, Wash. – Elaine Lewis Dowd passed away Oct. 8, 2005 surrounded by her family.
She was born March 29, 1928 in Omak, Wash., to Newt and Christabel Lewis. She met her husband, Tom Dowd, while working at the Crown Willamette Inn in Camas during the war. They had five children, Tom, Mary, Tim, Chris and Bonnie.
When Tom died she raised them on her own. She was a strong, kind, wise and humble person. She had many friends and her home was a welcome place with homemade bread and coffee.
Her son Tim was her anchor and cared for her and her cats, Calvin and Hobbs, until she passed away. She will be remembered by all with love.
Services will be Oct. 13 at Straubs Funeral Home in Camas, at 1 p.m. She will be buried in Conconully, Wash. On Oct. 15.
Lee Meyer
CASTLE DALE/BROOKINGS, Ore. – Lee Meyer died in Cresent City, Calif., on Oct. 8, 2005 due to health problems.
He was born in Castle Dale on Aug. 29, 1926 to Joseph and Lillian Jacobsen Meyer. He met and married Gloria Mason, his first wife in Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1946. They had two sons and one daughter, later divorced. Married his second wife, Elaine Hill of Salt Lake City. They had one daughter, later divorced. In 1973 he married Inez Brown in Redwood City, Calif., and accepted her three children from a previous marriage as his own.
He grew up in Price. After graduation from high school he joined the United States Merchant Marines.
Lee retired from Western Union after 34 years, he then went to work for Lockheed Missile and Space in Sunnyvale, Calif., for 10 years.
After retirement he and his wife moved to Brookings, Ore. He was a member of the Elks.
He is survived by two sons, Larry (Denise) Meyer, Bret Meyer of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Carol (Lorrin) Powell of Salt Lake City; Leeann (Mark) Robinson of Sandy; three stepchildren, Judi Ingram of Brookings, Ore.; Bill (Karen) Brown of Navato, Calif.; John (Michelle) Brown of Salt Lake City; 21 grandchildren; brother, Richard (Thelma) Meyer of Spanish Fork; and sister, LaVon (Herbert) Kutkas of Price. Preceded in death by wife, Inez; parents; two brothers, Jack and Paul Meyer; and two sisters, Flora Duncan and Fay Meyer.
Graveside service will be Thursday, Oct. 13 in Brookings, Ore.
