Lady Dinos lose region lead in game against Emery

After defeating North Sanpete on Oct. 11, the Lady Dinos volleyball team traveled south to take on longtime rival, the Emery Spartans.
Carbon entered the game with only one region loss to its name, which came at the hands of the North Sanpete team.
Many felt that the Emery game would be another victory for Carbon. But the Spartans had other plans.
The match up was intense with both teams winning two games each, thus forcing a fifth set tie breaker.
During the set, Emery snuck by the Dinos, 15-13. By losing to the Spartans, the Lady Dinos region record dropped to 7-2.

Carbon opened up the game strong by defeating the Spartans, 25-23.
In the second set, Emery reversed the score to 25-23 in the Spartans favor. The Dinos were not down, however. In the third set, Carbon handed the Spartans a 25-23 loss. Then Emery answered by defeating Carbon 25-23 in the fourth set.
With the teams tied, a fifth and deciding game was conducted. The first team to reach 15 points and win by at least two points would be the winner of this highly contested battle. Unfortunately for the Lady Dinos, Emery reached 15 points first and claimed the region victory.
Going into the game, Carbon head coach Bruce Bean felt that Emery could be one of the more difficult teams the Dinos had left to face during the regular season.
“Emery is a pretty good team and a lot of people underestimate them,” commented the coach prior to the region game. “They just might be the tougher team we’ll face this year.”
As the regular season draws to a conclusion, the Lady Dinos look to finish strong as they host Juan Diego on Oct. 18. This will be the final regular season game for Carbon who looks ahead to the state tournament Oct. 27-29.
After capturing the state title last year, the Lady Dinos look to defend their championship and have a strong team that is quite capable of jumping back from last week’s loss.
