Price has officially been awarded the Western Boys Baseball (WBBA) title world series for 2005. The announcement came at a recent board of directors meeting in Salt Lake City. The tournament will be played on the little league diamonds at Toy Atwood Complex in North Price. A 12-team affair, the tournament is scheduled the first week in August. The first three days of the meet teams will participate in pool play with the semi-finals and finals the last two days. However, all 12 teams will compete all five days during the week.
In other action taking place at the board meeting Bob Fieldsted, Altamont, was elected president of the association for a two year term and Doug Zumwalt, Salt Lake City, was named vice-president.
Walt Borla, Helper, is the local regional director.
A name change for the association will also take place during the coming year. The word “boys” being dropped from the title. The WBBA designation is being retained with the separation of the word “Baseball” into two words, The move is necessitated in recognition of the many girls taking part in the miniature diamond activity in recent years.
Locally the Price National and Northern Heights leagues have voted to merge under the banner, Carbon WBBA League. This will be the host league for the August tournament. Two teams from the Carbon-Emery region will qualify for the final tournament. Presently Helper, Green River, East Carbon and Wellington are fielding teams in the region, in addition to the Price leagues.
The leagues are presently in the process of organizing their regular league teams and normally begin league play on the first Saturday of May.
