On Saturday, May 14, some students from a local karate school traveled to Salt Lake City and competed in the 35th annual Utah Open Karate Championship.
Hosting the event was Master Toshio Osaka, chairman of U.S.A. Wado Ryu Karate-Do Federation. Students from the karate school did very well at the event.
Students of the school that placed in sparring and kata include Brett Morgen, black belt, second place in sparring and fourth in kata; Cheylee Montgomery, black belt, first in sparring and third in kata; Alexis Gagon, brown belt, third in sparring and fourth in kata; Whitney Gagon, green belt, third in sparring and third in kata; Brianna Scoville, brown belt, fourth in sparring and fourth in kata; Chuck Cummins, blue belt, second in sparring and third kata; and Harrison Torgerson, blue belt, third in sparring and third kata.
Sensei’s Mike Martinez, Kevin Jewkes, Brett Morgen and Cheylee Montgomery are proud of the students that competed.
