Helper American Legion crushes two more teams

After the double win against the Olympus Titans on June 20, Helper went up against a determined Kearns Post on June 22 and West on June 24 and came away with yet another set of wins keeping them undefeated in the league.
The Kearns Post team, who was first in the league before the loss, handed Helper the position of first place in the Salt lake Valley league after a 6-2 win for Helper.
As usual, it was a great performance overall for all players on the Helper team.
Chandler Pearson pitched the entire game only giving up two hits and striking out an impressive 14 batters. To top off an impressive game for him, Pearson also had three hits.
Somehow, Kearns managed to score two runs during the game even though Pearson didn’t give them much of a chance to get on base.
The Kearns Post team also had an overwhelming six errors in the game while Helper had only one.
Also playing great in the game, Dustin Howa managed an incredible three RBIs and three hits for the Helper team.
“We played our best team game of the year and came away with a win,” said Jeff Cisneros, coach of the Helper American Legion team, about the Kearns Post win.
Helper then took on West and added another win to their standings.
Helper had no problem defeating West even though they are considered a favorite in the league due to the college players they have on their team.
West has had some hard luck with the games they have lost. Of the four games West has lost, all have been by one run.
Pitching on Helper’s side had a little trouble but they were still able to take home a win of 8-7 against West.
Adam Martinez started the game, but was taken out after walking six batters in only three innings.

After Martinez left, Mike Smith was brought in and walked an additional four batters.
Even after that, Brett Johnson and Kyle Asay were given the chance and pitched pretty well for two innings.
Pearson was allowed to come in and finish in the last inning for Helper, securing their win.
“He is by far doing our best pitching at this point,” said Cisneros about the hard working Pearson.
Pearson, along with fellow Helper team member Joe Via, was named as a legion player to watch by the Salt Lake Tribune in an article on Saturday.
Helper held a 1-0 lead for three innings, but when the fourth inning came along, West turned things around by scoring an amazing six runs on five walks and four hits.
Helper pulled themselves back into the lead in the fifth inning and took a lead of 8-6.
Helper gave up one more run in the sixth, but kept their lead throughout the sixth and seventh innings for a final of 8-7.
Chris Hatch played an impressive game, hitting the ball very well and adding a home run in the fifth.
Chris Hanson also played well scoring a double in the same inning.
Before their loss to Helper, Kearns was first in the league, but adding a win against Kearns Post and West to their record, Helper stands alone in the first place position at 5-0 in the league and 11-4 overall.
The doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, June 25 against Taylorsville was rescheduled for July 16 in Helper.
Helper is scheduled to head back out of town on Wednesday, June 29 for a league game against Bountiful. The Bountiful team is a strong team, currently fourth in league standings, but Helper should have no problem defeating them.
After playing Bountiful, they will be back to play the very next day in Helper in another league game, this time against Highland. This game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Thursday night at the Helper field.
This is sure to be a great game. Highland should not be too hard for Helper to beat, currently being seventh in the Salt Lake Valley league, 2-2.
After this game, Helper will be seeing a bit of a break. They will be off for nearly a week before going up against Hunter in a home game on July 6.
Helper is sure to do great overall this year if they continue playing the way they have been.
