The University of Utah will host its eighth annual Veterans’ Day Commemoration Program on November 11, 2005 to honor Utah veterans who have served the country in military service. Again this year the university is inviting members of the Utah community to submit nominations for honorees,
The university has a deep respect for all veterans, but because of the advancing age of some who served in World War II and Korea, and with this year marking the 30th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War, the university is focusing on veterans from those three conflicts for this year’s commemoration program. However all nominees will be considered.
The nominees must be willing to talk about his or her wartime experience, have been in harm’s way (hazardous duty) or had combat experience, and currently reside in Utah. Eleven honorees will be selected to receive a commemorative medallion at a ceremony in their honor on Veterans Day at the university. In addition, the 11 veterans will be presented on the field at half time during the football game against New Mexico on Saturday, November 12 in Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Nominations and supporting materials are due by July 6. Nomination forms are available on-line at www.veteransday.utah.edu or from the office of the University Marketing and Communications at 201 Presidents Circle, Room 308, Salt Lake City, Utah 84112. Individuals may also call 801-581-6773 or by sending an email request to ashields@ucomm.utah.edu.
