During the annual Utah State Fire Wardens meeting at Bryce Canyon in October, state forester Joel Frandsen presented a number of awards to those attending, including the “2005 Excellence in Fire Prevention” award to Rudy Sandoval, who is the state fire warden for Emery and Carbon Counties.
Sandoval got the award for working closely with the state’s federal partners to educate citizens to the dangers of wildland fires. Frandsen said that the Carbon County resident has gone the extra mile in presenting wildland fire prevention messages at county fairs, schools, parades and through the media.
“Rudy stays in contact with the community leaders and community fire committee members in his two counties to keep things moving along with community fire plans,” said Frandsen. “He has made numerous contacts after hours, evenings and weekends. He is known and respected throughout both counties.”
