CEU sophomore Jake Nelson takes on an opponent during a game last season in the BDAC. Both Golden Eagle teams will play at home on Thursday night against Snow College from Ephraim. |
The Golden Eagles men’s basketball team opened region play in St. George with a decisive 91-77 win over Dixie State College.
CEU pulled away in the second half to put the game away.
Four of the five Eagle starters scored in double figures. John Rogers led the way with 19 points followed by Michael McCrary with 16, Tyler Kepkay with 15, and Tyler Billings with 14.
Tate Sorensen came off the bench and added 18 points.
Turnovers were a problem for the Rebels, allowing CEU to score 23 points off that category.
The Golden Eagles also went to the line more often than Dixie and hit 69 percent of their foul shots. Kepkay made 11 of 12 free throw attempts.
The Rebels were much more effective in the paint than CEU. The outside shooting was the key for the Eagles. They put up 22 attempts from outside the three point line. CEU had a 45.5 percent success rate from beyond the arc to the tune of 30 points.
CEU men’s basketball team will resume region play this Thursday Night at CEU at 7:30 at the BDAC when they take on Snow College.
