The good news last week was that the NCAA Women’s Basketball poll ranked the CEU women’s basketball team 14th in the nation.
The bad news is that they lost to Dixie 56-68 the next day.
The team fell behind by 10 in the first half. Even though they were a bit hotter in the second half, it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
The Golden Eagles shot only 27.6 percent of their field goals for the game while letting Dixie hit 57 percent. Dixie also went to the free throw line for 33 attempts and made over 80 percent of them. CEU only got to the line 16 times and had a 50 percent success rate. Dixie also outscored CEU on points off the turnover by 50 percent.
Elisha Harris was CEU’s leading scorer with 13 points. The bench is what kept the team in the game. Thirty-three of the squads 56 points came from the bench.
Kaylynn Fager led the scoring from the bench with nine points and Staci Little contributed eight.
The CEU women are 0-1 in region play and will play Thursday at home against Snow at 5:30 at the BDAC.
