Last Wednesday, the Carbon High cross country team traveled to Emery to compete in a multiple school cross country meet.
The meet, which was in Ferron, was the first time Carbon High has gone up against both Emery High and Green River High this season.
Emery and Carbon went back and forth last season when it came to competing against each other. The Dinos went into the meet expecting a close race with the Spartans and they got it.
“This was the first time we met Emery, we didn’t know what to expect,” said Stewart Foster, coach for Carbon’s cross country team.
The boy’s team managed to out score Emery by just three points to win the competition.
Paul Goodrich placed first for Carbon in the 5K race. Goodrich had almost 400 yards on his closest competitor.
Jacob Perez placed fourth overall, with Sam Madrid following close behind in fifth. Madrid has greatly improved with every race he runs. He started out as Carbon’s number seven man and is now running as number three, which is quite a big jump in the short time the team has been practicing this season.
Stetson Kunz finished in eighth place followed by David Youse, who came in 10th.
In the girl’s race, Katie Hobbs place sixth and Brittany Jepson came in at 10th.
The girl’s team is still extremely shorthanded with players, limiting how good they can do as a team. The Carbon cross country team still welcomes any ninth to 12th grade girls to come out and compete on the team.
Everyone on Carbon’s team has been improving their times with each race.
Carbon’s next meet is Wednesday, Sept. 14 at North Sanpete High School. All teams in the region will be at this meet along with others. The Dinos should make a great showing with as good as they have been doing this season.
