Construction report for Labor Day holiday weekend throughout Utah

Construction on U.S. 6 in Carbon County is being done to widen the bridgQe near Sunnyside Junction. One lane of traffic is open in each direction. Most delays are at night when construction crews are paving.

The Utah Department of Transportation released region four’s construction report on Aug 25.
Compiled every two weeks, the report advises Carbon County motorists of major construction projects taking place on Utah highways that may impact traffic.
Project descriptions provide general information, including overall scope, basic traffic control measures and anticipated completion dates.
Smaller improvement projects may not be included in the report, explained UDOT. Construction schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather conditions, equipment problems or emergency situations.
The report includes the following construction projects:
•Interstate 15 north of Beaver.
Improvements include the rehabilitation of concrete pavement.
Concrete joints will be sealed, some slabs replaced and the entire section will be ground for smoothness.
Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction through a 5-mile work zone.
Motorists may expect moderate delays and are encouraged to watch for heavy equipment and work crews in the area.
Completion is expected in mid September.
•Interstate 15 south of Beaver.
Project includes the reconstruction of I-15 from State Route 20 to Beaver.
Concrete pavement will be crushed and paved over with asphalt.
Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction through an eight-mile work zone.
A reduced speed limit of 65 miles per hour is posted and travelers may expect moderate delays.
Motorists are encouraged to watch for heavy equipment as well as work crews in the area and drive with caution.
Southbound lane restrictions will be in place during the Labor Day weekend.
Completion is expected in November.
•Interstate 15 from north Cedar to Summit.
Project included the paving, grinding of rumble strips and re-painting of I-15 between Cedar City and Summit.
Crews are currently milling and paving the travel lanes. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction through a 4-mile work zone. Motorists can expect a reduced speed limit of 65 mph and moderate delays.
Completion is expected at the end of August.
•St. George Boulevard.
Project includes the complete reconstruction of St. George Boulevard in Washington County, including utility line replacements, curb, gutter, sidewalk, and a raised decorative median.
Crews are currently working from 100 West to 300 West and from 300 East to 500 East. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction through the work zone. Motorists can expect a reduced speed limit and moderate delays through the project.
Completion is expected by August 2006.
• Traffic Signals in La Verkin, Cedar City, Washington, and St. George.
Project includes installation of traffic signals in four towns in Southern Utah.
La Verkin: A new light at SR 9 and Center Street should be operational by mid September.
Crews will then move to Cedar City (1045 North Main), then Washington (Telegraph Road and Main Street), and then to St. George (Bluff and 900 South).
Completion is expected by December.
•U.S. 89 from Mile Marker 77 to 81.5 near Mt. Carmel Junction in Kane County.
Project includes the chip seal of a five-mile section of U.S. 89.
From August 1 through 4, traffic is reduced to one lane in alternating directions as directed by pilot cars and flaggers from. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
The project is complete except for a flush coat to be applied for 2 days in early September.
•U.S. 89 from Mile Marker 0 to 10 north of Page in Kane County.
Project includes the chip seal and guardrail replacement through a 10-mile section of U.S. 89.
Crews were chip sealing the project through August 26 and will be installing guard rail through mid September.
Through August, traffic will be reduced to one lane in alternating directions as directed by pilot cars and flaggers.Completion is expected for September.
•SR 118 from Richfield to Elsinore in Severe County.
Project includes the overlay and chip seal of a seven-mile long section of SR 118 from Richfield to Elsinore.
Traffic is reduced to one lane in alternating directions as directed by pilot cars and flaggers through early September.
Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes and use alternate routes when possible.
Completion is expected completion for mid September.
•I-70 Richfield to Salina (Mile Post 42-48) in Severe County.
Project includes the surface grinding of concrete pavement from milepost 42 to 48.
Project suspended until mid September when crews will return for two weeks to finish the project. A reduced speed limit of 60 mph is in effect through the work zone.
Completion is expected for the end of September.
•U.S. Highway 6 from MP 226 to 228 (Passing Lane) in Emery County.
Project includes addition of a passing lane.
Crews are currently working on shoulder areas of the road with one lane of traffic open in each direction with a reduced speed limit.
Wide load restrictions are in place, motorists should watch for flaggers and trucks entering the highway and should expect minimum delays.
Completion is expected for fall 2005.
•SR 288 Green River Main Street in Emery County.
Project includes bridge rehabilitation and paving of a one-mile section of Green River Main Street.
Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit. Wide load restrictions are in place, motorists should watch for flaggers and trucks entering the highway and should expect minimum delays.
Completion is expected for mid September.
•U.S. Highway 6 MP 288 (Bridge Reconstruction) in Emery County.
Project includes the reconstruction of a bridge just north of Green River.
Traffic is reduced to one 11-foot-wide lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit. Wide load restrictions are in place, motorists should watch for flaggers and trucks entering the highway and should expect minimum delays.
Completion is expected for fall 2005.
•State Route 10 Muddy Creek Bridge Replacement (North of Emery).
Project includes the replacement of a bridge over Muddy Creek north of Emery.
Crews have completed a temporary bridge and are currently building the permanent bridge. A reduced speed limit of 35 mph is posted through construction zone. Motorists should expect minimum delays.
Completion is expected for September,
•U.S. Highway 6 at Sunnyside Junction in Carbon County.
Project includes the widening of a bridge on U.S. 6 near Sunnyside Junction.
Crews are currently working on the shoulder areas of the road with one lane of traffic open in each direction with minimum delays during daylight hours. Crews are paving at night and motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes at night.
Completion is expected for fall 2005.
•I-70 from MP 107 to 138 in Grand County.
Project includes a roto-mill, overlay and chip seal of a 20-mile section of road.
Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction with oversized and wide load restrictions in place through mid September. Motorists can expect minimum delays and should watch for workers and heavy equipment in the area.
Completion is expected for October.
•State Route 128 Bridge Replacement at Mile Marker 14 in Grand.
Project includes the replacement of a bridge 14 miles east of Moab.
Crews have completed construction of a temporary bridge and are currently building the permanent bridge. A reduced speed limit of 35 mph is posted through construction zone. Motorists should expect minimum delays.
Completion is expected for September.
•U.S. 191 from MP 59-62 (Devil’s Canyon) in San Juan.
Project includes the total reconstruction and widening of U.S. 191 through a three-mile section known as Devil’s Canyon. The project will cut the hills down, bring the dips up, and add passing lanes and turn lanes.
Crews are currently excavating the new roadway. Traffic is restricted to one lane in alternating directions with delays of up to 15 minutes. Longer delays are possible during blasting operations.
Completion is expected for October.
